Happy Chinese New Year!

February 2, 2009

We spent Saturday celebrating the Chinese New Year. This was a notable day for me, and not just because I spent time outdoors, voluntarily, in the daytime. [Jaws drop…somebody screams.] This was my first parade and my first visit to Chinatown (“forget it, Jake”). We had a great time hanging out with friends for the afternoon and watching the festivities, although the sun caught up to me later in the form of a blistering headache — time for some real sunglasses, ow!

In the evening we went up to Jenn’s martial arts school for a holiday party, where we got to witness a number of demonstrations — kung fu, karate, weapons, and some very cool free-running. Overall it was a great day, and one that made me really appreciate living in LA, where there are so many opportunities to see cool, interesting stuff. Happy Year of the Ox! šŸ™‚

Had an absolute blast in Chinatown with you guys. Your first parade EVER? Really? You really had the standing and pointing at things and occasionally clapping thing down. Glad you had a good time.
