"Why We Reject Stories" at Futurismic

January 7, 2010

With January, I started my sixth year as the fiction editor at Futurismic — hard to believe! Recently I wrote up “Why we reject stories,” a column summarizing the thinking behind most of the rejections we send out, based on my years of experience sifting through the electronic slushpile. The essay went up today and lists the top six reasons we reject stories, some of them market-specific, some of them simple writing issues. I wrote it with the goal of giving potential contributors a little more insight into what Futurismic is all about as a fiction market. Hope you’ll stop over and check it out!
