After a long, long dry spell, I can finally report a new short story sale: “Phantom Agency” will be appearing in an upcoming issue of Fran Wilde and Julian Yap’s Sunday Morning Transport!
Fran encouraged me to write a short spy fantasy, and “Phantom Agency” is the result. Set in Switzerland in 1989, it grew out of a classic espionage trope, but didn’t come together in my head until I realized I was channeling pervasive dread about late-stage capitalism. Hopefully the story is intriguing enough for spy buffs, but with a hint of quirky, unsettling surrealism.
It’s my first fiction sale in over five years, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ll post scheduling details once I have them. It’s refreshing to have something in the pipeline again!
