Season four was one of transition, as the series — fresh off its best ratings ever — suffered the jolting departure of Barbara Bain and Martin Landau. Leonard Nimoy stepped over from the Star Trek lot to take over for Landau, and does a commendable if more subdued job as magician/role-player Paris. A revolving door of guest actresses filled in for Bain, including the often-recalled Lee Meriwether, but none could recapture Cinnamon’s inimitable magic. The script quality began its steady late-year decline this year, but there was still enough creative gas in the tank for a few more classics.
